Hot to Clean Your Diamond

By: John Toure

Everybody loves diamonds. They are shiny, make great designs for jewelry (especially diamond earrings), and rather expensive to say the least. They are very pleasing to the eye and always demand attention. Because of this, one should always make sure that they care for their diamonds. Remember, no one likes to show off dirty, unclean diamonds to family, friends, and other associates. They are known for their sparkle and they should stay that way.
There are a few ways that you can learn to ensure that your diamond keeps that special glow. One idea is to always check your stones to be sure they are tight before cleaning. You don't want to start immediately cleaning the diamond if it's loose. It can easily be lost. Another idea is to stay away from drains or other crevices or holes when cleaning your diamond. You may scrub it a little too hard and drop it, never to find it again. It's best to use a small bowl when doing this. One last idea is to take you jewelry to professional jeweler for cleaning at least once a year. There's nothing like a professional!
So now that you know what not to do to your diamond when cleaning your diamond, here are some tips to keep that sparkle alive. Use a mild non-chlorine soap and warm water and soak the diamond 30 minutes or more, depending on how much build up is on the item. Then with an eyebrow brush, or a child?s soft toothbrush, gently scrub the piece loosening any debris. Rinse the diamond with warm water and pat dry with a lint free selvyt cloth
There are a few other ways as well. You could purchase an over the counter cleaner. Many department stores carry a pre-mixed solution that includes a tray and a soft brush. It is quite easy and simple. All you have to do is follow the instructions on the bottle for a quick cleaning. Professional jewelers use an Ultrasonic cleaner and these can be purchased at a reasonable price. This small machine creates a high-frequency vibration which shakes debris loose. Gently scrub, rinse and dry as described above.
If you want your diamond to look its best, you should remember to always maintain it and keep it clean. It's very easy and has great results if done properly.
