Before we discuss regarding water treatment jobs as a career option, let us first understand what is the career of water treatment is all about and what qualification and experience is required for taking up in such a career.

Water treatment is the process by which water would be made more acceptable for an end user. These end uses would include use as drinking water, use in industrial process, medical and many other uses. The main objective of any water treatment process is to remove all existing contaminants in the water and to reduce the concentration of such contaminants so that the water thus produced becomes fit for used for the desired end use. One such end use is to return water that has been used earlier back into the natural environment so that there is no adverse effect on the ecology. Water purification is the most important part of water treatment and we would be discussing about water purification in more detail.

Water purification is the process of removing undesirable chemical and biological contaminants from raw water. The goal of any water purification process is to make water fit for some specific purpose. Most water is purified to make it fit for human consumption. But, water purification may also be carried out for many other purposes that would include to meet the requirements of medical, pharmacological, chemical and industrial applications. Basically, the main processes involved in water purification would include physical processes like filtration and sedimentation, biological processes like slow sand filters or activated sludge, chemical processes like flocculation and chlorination and the use of electromagnetic radiation like ultraviolet light.

The water purification process might reduce the concentration of particulate matters like suspended particles, parasites, bacteria, algae, fungi, viruses and a range of dissolved and solid material in particle form.

The Government generally sets the standard of drinking water. There are international standards for drinking water also. These standards generally set the maximum and minimum concentration of different contaminants that are generally found in water.

According to World Health Organization report, billions people still lack access to safe drinking water supply, there are billions of cases of diarrhea caused by use of unsafe water. Most of these cases could be prevented by providing people by maintaining proper environment.

Therefore, Water Treatment Jobs could be considered as very important for proper development of the human race and people should select such a job for their career.
