If you are unable to attend lectures in a school because of your sick grandmother, you can go for a distance learning program. A distance learning program does not distract you from other responsibilities. You can juggle your job, or nurse a sick relative with a distance learning program.

Asia and North America are two continents that are actively engaged in accredited distance learning programs. The use of the internet to enhance distance learning has made it possible for people even in the most underdeveloped nations of the world to engage in distance learning. Distance learning has made it easy for you to stay in a remote area and still get an education.

It’s worth repeating that as a distance learning student, time and location are irrelevant. Distance learning is not hampered by the location of the student in any way. Better still, distance learning students get to study whenever it is convenient for them.

The University of Wisconsin, Madison was the home of Charles Wedemeyer who founded the Articulated Instructional Media (AIM) back in 1964. It was funded by the Carnegie Foundation and at lasted for a good four years. Wedemeyer is today considered the father of modern distance education in America because her brought in a variety of communications technologies aimed at providing learning to off-campus populations, that were not there before.

Lecturers in some colleges sometimes allow students to listen or watch videos of their courses. Sometimes, they do these recordings themselves, and mail them to the students with accompanying assignments. The distance leaning student replies in a like manner. This though, is only necessary when the Internet is unsuitable for some reason or other.

Professors sometimes prepare their tests with special programs that restrict access to the Internet during the duration of the test. The problem with this solution is that there is no way to stop candidates from getting help outside of the Internet. They could bring books with them, or friends who can help answer questions.

You can study a particular topic for as long as you want in a distance learning situation. Distance learning enables slow learners to catch up without pressure from other course mates. If you are a fast learner, you can easily complete a distance learning program in a faster period of time.

With distance learning farmers and teachers alike can learn in spite of the varying demands on their time. Irrespective of where they are or what they do, once they are able to find some means of receiving and sending the correspondence that accrues to them, they are in safe hands. What counts now is the technology that is available, which continues to improve each passing year.
