Tips for instructing a Solicitor

By: Claims for you-27115

The first step you should take before visiting a solicitor is that they have experience with the type of case you are thinking of making. You should not be put off asking about their experience and what services they offer, for example free initial consultations.
If you have any additional requirements such as an interpreter or disabled access to the solicitors building, you should alert the solicitor so they can arrange what is necessary.
The first meeting with a potential solicitor is when you will need to take a lot of things to show him so you can discuss your case. You will need to prove you are who you claim to be by taking some form of identity such as a passport of birth certificate. The next important thing to take is details on who you want to take to court, this will mainly be name and address. The third lot of information you will need to take along is supporting evidence, basically anything you can gather to help you with your case. In some cases such as divorce proceedings, additional items such as marriage certificates will need to be provided to the solicitor.
To help a solicitor decide whether you are entitled to Green form advice or public funding, you should bring along income or benefit information that will show him if you are in the correct bracket. If you have previously had public funding, you should take along a copy of the certificate.
You should also tell your solicitor about any previous solicitors that have acted on your behalf as they may need to contact them during your cases for information.
When dealing with a road accident or accident at work, you should preferably provide pictures of the accident area and the conditions that caused it. If this is not possible you may draw a sketch with the help of your solicitor.
One tip to bear in mind when dealing with courts and solicitors, is if they ask for additional information, you should provide this as fast as possible so that you do not delay the court.
Once a solicitor has been instructed, you should forward all correspondence between you and the opponent to them as they should look over anything in case it will affect your case.
Hopefully these tips will give you a general over view of what you need to do before and during instructing a solicitor. This is not professional legal advice and you should always do plenty of research and talk to professionals before taking legal action.
